Are you single?
Do you really look like Guile from the Street Fighter games?
Um… Yes! Yes, I do… Yeah, that’s the ticket…
What does Guile’s World run on?
Joomla! No, I’m not yelling at you. Joomla! is the name of the content management system (CMS) I’m using. The exclamation point is part of the name.
What programs do you use to do the graphics?
GIMP. I have plenty of Photoshop experience and would love to be using it, but the $699 US price-point combined with a personal effort to stop constantly pirating software keeps it out of reach.
What program do you use to do the coding?
Joomla! has a built-in editor. When I’m working on a non-CMS project, I use Notepad++.
You’re using a WYSIWYG editor in Joomla!? You’re not a real website designer!
Okay, first off, fuck you and your attitude. Second, I spend 99% of the time with the WYSIWYG editor turned off, because I hate the way that every single one of them I've tried can’t properly deal with something as simple as character entity codes. Third, did you miss the part where I said I use Notepad++ for non-CMS projects? And fourth, fuck you and your attitude. I use the tools necessary to get the job done. Period, end of discussion.
Why don’t you use [insert name of proprietary site management program here]?
Because they all suck. No site management program, whether it’s FrontPage, GoLive, Dreamweaver or anything else, can produce pages and sites that are compliant with XHTML and CSS and that look the same no matter what browser the visitor uses. If I knew how, I would write my own program that does support XHTML and CSS. I’d love to have a site management program that could keep up with me. But if I knew how to write a program, I’d be a highly-paid developer, not an underpaid website designer. You can all blow me.
Hold on! The site doesn’t look the same in Netscape 2.0 on my OS/2 computer! You just said you make sites that look the same no matter what browser the visitor uses! You’re a hypocrite!
Fuck you, and upgrade your goddamned computer and web browser to something from this century. I don’t support old, shitty web browsers (including pre-7 Internet Explorer, any version of Netscape, or Firefox prior to version 3) in the hopes that a visitor to my site using one of these turds will discover that it sucks, and upgrade to something that doesn’t. Pretentious of me to assume someone would want to upgrade just to see my site, I suppose, but the only way to get slow adapters to upgrade is to take away the option to not upgrade.
How do you do [insert name of effect here]?
Email me and I’ll answer.
Speaking of effects, there don’t seem to be as many as there were before. How come?
In earlier versions of Guile’s Cool Stuff, I tried to cram as much cool stuff into the site as I could. Now I try to focus on quality over quantity. The pages may not have as many bells and whistles, but they’re more functional than they were before. Besides, the site looks way cooler now.
Where are you located?
Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
I love your site! Will you make one this cool for me?
You bet. Drop me a line and we’ll talk.
